U.S. RE Places Reinsurance for Lawyers' Mutual

Senior Vice President Larry Shatoff reports that U.S. Re has placed reinsurance for the Legal Mutual Liability Society of Maryland, the endorsed carrier for the Maryland State Bar Association. Legal Mutual was founded in the early eighties in response to an insurance availability crisis for smaller law firms. A state statute was enacted assessing lawyers to provide the capital/surplus required to launch the company. "Legal Mutual has provided a stable market for this product a stable market for this product over the last 12 years through the ups and downs of the competitive cycle," Mr. Shatoff said. The reinsurance was place in the U.S. and London markets.
