Florida's Lee County Faces Evacuation Crisis
In a story on the building boom along Florida's Gulf Coast, USA TODAY reports that Lee County has grown to the point where a full evacuation in advance of a hurricane would take as long as 58 hours. One quarter of Lee County residents are 65 or older. Alternatives to evacuation include more and improved shelters, especially for those unable to evacuate. Lee County includes the major urban center of Fort Myers.
