U.S. RE and Hartford Create GL Program For New York's Distinguished Programs Group

U.S. RE and the Hartford Insurance Group worked with Distinguished Programs to provide the New York managing general agency a General Liability Program commencing October 1, reports Larry Shatoff, Senior Vice President of U.S. RE. The program will be backed up by quota share reinsurance placed by U.S. RE.

Distinguished Programs is an insurance program development and distribution firm with a primary focus in the real estate industry. They create specialized insurance products for groups of small to medium sized insureds and develop strategic partnerships to distribute these products.

Distinguished went from a small brokerage firm to pioneering the country's first Real Estate Umbrella Liability Purchasing Group. It was a new and improved way to handle risk by delivering the critical liability coverages clients needed at a price that was significantly below what they had been paying. Quadrant Insurance Managers of Columbus, OH, in which U.S. RE is a majority shareholder, is a strategic partner with the Distinguished Group in marketing this program to Assurex Partners and Quadrant Select Agencies. In 1995, Distinguished Programs became full-time program developers and in 1996 switched from retail to wholesale distribution. Since then, Distinguished has grown dramatically to over $12 million in revenues.

U.S. RE first became involved by providing retrocessional protection for Distinguished's property program. Not long after, Distinguished advised U.S. RE that it was seeking a new liability carrier. U. S. RE then went to work with The Hartford and Distinguished to put the new GL program together.
