Cat Modeler

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills, knowledge, and experience:

  • Computer literate – Ideal candidate must be comfortable with working not just on a Personal Computer for long periods of time, but with large databases as well.Candidate must be detail-oriented, patient, persistent, and results-oriented.A high degree of functionality in both EXCEL and ACCESS, as well as knowledge of SQL (Structured Query Language), is a must in order to manipulate large quantities of data efficiently. Familiarity with data mining is a plus.

  • Client Interface – Ideal candidate must be capable of working with employees of the client in a congenial manner. Actual face-to-face presentations of results to the client, while minimal and having brokers in attendance, must allow the candidate to exhibit their people skills.Client interface would occur more frequently when outlining data requirements and dealing with subsequent data problems.

  • Insurance knowledge – Ideal candidate should be familiar with both property coverage issues as well as the intricacies of the various classifications, including state, for all Property lines of business.Moreover, an elementary knowledge of Workers Compensation is necessary. Furthermore, basic reinsurance knowledge pertaining to quota share, excess of loss and surplus share treaties is necessary.

  • Catastrophe Modeling Issues knowledge – Ideal candidate should be familiar with the fundamentals of CAT Modeling in order to explain the produced results to brokers and clients, including knowledge of the probability and statistical theory underpinning the models. An understanding of the physical science underlying the various CAT perils is also necessary.Moreover, reasons for shifts in PML from one renewal to the next, either because of changes in company profiles or CAT Model Version revisions or both, should be able to be identified.

  • Scheduling skills – Ideal candidate should be able to schedule multiple tasks so that all broker/client needs are met.Scheduling skills includes, but is not limited to, priority setting and juggling multiple tasks simultaneously. Candidate should be willing to work any necessary overtime hours, especially for January and July renewals.

  • Educational Background – Ideal candidate would have a 4 year college degree, preferably entailing a degree involving mathematics or physical sciences, although “some college” could be possible for the candidate with relevant job experience in a similar role.Candidate should be able to reason logically.
